Video: My Little Serenity

A My Little Pony/Serenity Trailer Mash-Up. Applejack is Jayne is the best (and most natural) casting decision ever.

Silly Video: Cave Johnson’s “Lemons” rant from Portal 2

I played Portal 2 last week, and absolutely LOVED it. I’m dying to play it again. I thought Valve did a great job with the story, especially with the backstory of Aperture Science. The writing was fantastic—GLADoS was back and meaner than ever, but in her own hilarious way, of course. The gameplay was great, too; I liked the lasers (sorry, the “discouragement beams”) more than the pellets from the first game, and the hard light bridges were awesome.

Overall, I thought Portal 2 was a good companion to the first game. My only complaint is that you can’t play individual test chambers—you have to pick a “chapter” of the game (there are 10) and play through all the test chambers to get to the one you want. That doesn’t lend itself to the same kind of quick, repeat gameplay of the first one. (I often replay the Companion Cube and Turret levels from Portal when I’m bored with whatever else I’ve been working on and want a nice puzzle game.)

Anyways, I loved the part of the game that’s included in that video. Minor spoilers (?) for Portal 2, but nothing… too integral to the story.

Glenn Reynolds: “I’m a renaissance dweeb”

Bill Whittle recently interviewed Professor Reynolds about the blogging—how he got started, how blogging created an Army of Davids, and how he manages all the e-mails and links he receives throughout the day. It’s fairly short, entertaining, and pretty helpful. I’m definitely going to miss having seminars and classes with Professor Reynolds after I graduate.

Apple: If “App Store” trademark is Generic, so is Microsoft “Windows” I had a deep discussion with someone about this; I think “App Store” is a fairly generic term, but I can also make a strong argument in favor of the trademark. (For example, neither Droid nor Microsoft use “app” or “store” for their store fronts—it’s the Android Market, Microsoft Marketplace. RIM has the Blackberry App World, though.)

Charlie Sheen Quotes Presented by Superheroes They actually make more sense this way. The only thing that’s missing is Tigra from Thundercats talking about having Tiger’s Blood. XD

Arc Attack: Doctor Who Theme (Chattacon 2011)

Arc Attack performs songs from Tron: Legacy (Chattacon 2011)

Last weekend was Chattacon, a nice little first con of the year. Arc Attack performed, and like last year, they debuted some new devices and songs this year. One of their new songs was a mash-up of “The Grid” and “Derezzed” from the Tron: Legacy soundtrack. It was incredible! Here’s a video of their performance:

Four Days at Dragon*Con (Preview)

April already?

I can’t believe it’s already April. This semester has flown by. I’ve got a lot of outlining and studying to do, as well as a paper to write. This week I’m finishing half of my paper (that’s the goal, at least) and finalizing my registration for my last Fall semester.

I hope everyone had a safe and happy Easter yesterday, if that’s your thing. 😉 I traveled 30 long miles to my grandparents’ house for church and lunch, and it was lovely. Good to see my grandparents, my mom, and my aunt.

It’s finally Springtime in Knoxville, and I’m excited about getting to wear all my cute dresses. I spent all last weekend outside as much as I could, and it was awesome. I love soaking in the sunshine. I also got to play with an iPad! It was nice, and very pretty, but I just can’t see it having a place in my life right now. I’m happy with my Macbook and my iPhone. However, the Marvel comics app was awesome, and so is the Netflix app. I can definitely see why people want an iPad, and if I had more disposable income I might consider getting one, but for now it’s just not for me.

Hopefully I’ll get out of my funk and start making more substantive posts. There are a lot of issues worth discussing, but I just don’t have the time or the energy to cover them well right now. So for now, here’s a video of Bear McCreary’s “All Along the Watchtower” in 8-bit audio:

LED Hooping videos!

My friend Mike took some videos of me hooping at ConNooga. Here are two of them:

New Projects

I’ve been busy since this past weekend…

Saturday I made my LED hula hoop. It’s awesome. My friend Derek took some long-exposure pictures, which he posted on facebook. I’ve also got a video that’s on YouTube. (It and some pictures are below.)

Last night I started working on the Disco Bra Top for my “Just Dance” Lady Gaga costume. I finished half of it in about 3 hours, so I’m hoping I can finish the rest of it up tonight after I pack for ConNooga.

Anyway, pictures and video below.
